Today (2006/09/08), we were treated with a refreshing afternoon and a truly enoyable experience. Instead of meeting in the classroom, we met in front of Old Main to make prayer flags and tsa-tsa's (mini-stupas). The prayer flags were made using rectangular pieces of cloth of varying colors, a wood stencil block, blue ink, and a sponge. The ink was applied to the block using a paint brush, the was cloth layed over the block, and the sponge was gently brushed over the fabric to lift the paint. The tsa-tsa's were made using clay pressed into a bell-shaped mold. After pressing the clay firmly into the bell and banged the bottom onto the table, out came a lovely miniature stupa. It was a great afternoon of Tibetan culture. category images
