On the largest of Rome's 7 Hills (the Capitoline) sits the Capitol of the city . Underneath the Capitol, which was redesigned by Michaelangelo in the 16th century, is the unexcavated ruins of the Tabularium. Many more ancient sites may be underground, but palaces were built above them during the Medieval period and it's unlikely to be excavated/
