Today (2006/12/05), the monks invited all of their students to a party at St. Martin's. They prepared monastery food for us -- a marvelous soup and bread -- and we all sat around and talked for a while. Before eating, we saw a documentary about the search and discovery of a reborn lama, who, after being brought out of Tibet in the 1990's, met with the Dalai Lama, and was "returned" to his monastery in South India (the same one that Geshe-la studied at). The film begun with an interview of the monk who had served the lama before he had died. He expressed how the death had affected him, because the lama had been like a father to him. Now, he has become the "father" to the 4-year-old reborn lama. The demeanor of the 4-year old was enchanting, amusing, and inspiring. It was a wonderful evening of food and camaraderie.
