A beautiful little bay where we went to have lunch and swim. It unfortunately was raining, so we skipped the swimming. We climbed up a hill to an impressive bat cave with a hole in the roof which is whimsically identified as Spílio tou Nestóros (Nestor's Cave). It is the grotto where, according to the Odyssey, Nestor and Neleusa kept their cows, and in which Hermes hid Apollo's cattle. It is possible that the cave sparked Homer's imagination, for this area is reckoned by archaeologists to have been, in the Mycenean-era, the harbour of King Nestor. category images
