Leaving Arkoudi at 7am, I spend next 4+ hours communing to Patras via Gastouni. Back at Patras, I took a cab to the ferry to Ithaka. I knew my Greek failed when I saw the Rion-Antirion Bridge, but we figured it out. The ferry ride was long and quite a bit more wobbly than the ferry to Crete. As we passed by the rocky islands, I began imagining Odysseus' return trip and can see how such beautiful seas and such beautiful islands could inspire the longing hearts of legend. The ferry stopped at Kefalonia to take on/drop off passengers, and moved on to Ithaka. Daily ferries link the island of Ithaca with the harbour of Patras (53 nautical miles of distance), with Fiskardo, Sami and Agia Efthymia on Kefallonia and Vassiliki on Lefkada.
