Statue of Pan

Statue of Pan. Parian marble. Found in Sparta, Peloponnese. The goat-footed god wears an animal pelt, from which protrude his hairy legs and and hand, holding the pan-pipe. The expression on the face, with its bestial features, is softened by his broad smile. Copy made in the 1st century CE of an original of the 4th century BCE.
